5 Natural Foods to Help Ease Stomach Discomfort

Stomach discomfort is a natural occurrence we all have to deal with from time to time. It can be from eating bad food or your tummy deciding to act up after you relentlessly throw one dish after the other into it.

Luckily, nature knows how to take care of itself just fine. There are natural foods you can take to cure or ease stomach-aches. Here are some.

Rice water

Rice is a proven remedy that takes care of an upset stomach and even stops diarrhoea. To make rice water, boil half a cup of rice in six cups of water for 15-20 minutes.

Drain the water and drink it warm. You may flavour the water with sugar or honey if you find the bland taste unbearable.


Conventional wisdom dictates that you steer clear of dairy products when suffering a stomach upset.

However, yoghurt contains beneficial bacteria that can help ease stomach discomfort and boost immunity.

Nonetheless, you may want to avoid flavoured varieties of yoghurt or those with added sugar.

Heat Treatment

Heat directly on an upset stomach is known to increase blood flow to the skin surface and help in alleviating stomach pain.

Place a hot water bottle or a cloth dipped in hot water on your stomach until pain subsides.

When using a cloth, you will want to keep re-soaking it in hot water to maintain the high temperature.

Carrot and Mint Juice

Carrot provides nourishment to an upset stomach while mint has a soothing effect.

Slice four carrots, add one teaspoon of peppermint and boil them in four cups of water for about a quarter of an hour.

Blend the mixture and take as it is or flavour with lemon juice.

Ginger Tea

Good old ginger is known to cure many illnesses, including stomach discomfort.

Wash, peel and then chop up some fresh ginger into thin slices. Heat two cups of water and add the ginger when the water comes to boil.

Let the mixture boil for three minutes and then strain out the ginger pieces. You can take the ginger tea as is or flavour it with sugar or honey.
