Boko Haram Kills Soldiers, Civilians In Konduga

The Nigerian Army says Operation Hadin Kai troops thwarted Boko Haram terrorist’s attempt to infiltrate Rann in Kala Balge local government area while two soldiers and an unspecified number of people were killed in Konduga. The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

The army disclosed that the terrorists attempted to breach the border town but could not because of the resistance mounted by the troops who engaged the Boko Haram insurgents in a fierce firefight that lasted about an hour.

According to the military, the terrorists withdrew after many of them were wounded, leaving behind several weapons and ammunition.

The army listed anti-aircraft gun barrel, AK47 rifle, handheld communication radio, and different calibers of ammunition as being among the items recovered from the terrorists.

It also disclosed that the troops engaged another band of terrorists who attacked Ajiri town in Konduga on May 2.

According to the Nigerian military, the terrorists entered a part of the town, burnt nine houses, and killed some residents before the troops engaged them in a shootout, forcing the insurgents to retreat after a number of them were wounded.

“Unfortunately, however, two personnel paid the supreme price in the resulting encounter.

“The Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru commended the troops for their resilience and determination to keep their areas free of terrorist activities.

“He further charged them to sustain the renewed vigor in discharging their duties,” said the military.
